Instituto (Norman grantee 2022–present) was founded in 2019 as a training hub for Arizona leaders and organizations that aim to increase civic participation and build political power in marginalized communities throughout the state. They incubate emerging projects — civic engagement efforts in rural areas, language justice campaigns for Spanish-speaking, Native, and African immigrant voters — and offer fellowship programs for organizers, nonprofit managers and executives, and people interested in running for elected office. In 2024, Instituto expanded its work to include reproductive justice, providing workshops and training volunteers to gather support for a ballot measure on abortion rights. They activated their network to join the Arizona for Abortion Access coalition, which played a critical role in mobilizing voters to approve AZ Proposition 139, a constitutional amendment that established the fundamental right to abortion. 

Forward Montana Foundation (Norman grantee 2024–present) was founded in 2011 by college students seeking to increase youth civic participation; today, it is the largest youth-led civic engagement organization in the state. Their work centers on three areas: youth leadership development, voter mobilization, and issue advocacy. Following the Supreme Court’s 2022 decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, Montana’s young people became increasingly energized around abortion access and reproductive rights, and Forward Montana was well-positioned to channel that energy into action. Alongside the ACLU of Montana and Planned Parenthood Advocates of Montana, they helped launch the Montanans Securing Reproductive Rights coalition that mobilized voters to pass a ballot initiative in 2024 to enshrine the right to abortion in the state constitution and prohibit the government from penalizing doctors or patients who perform or receive abortions. This victory can be partially attributed to Forward Montana’s voter mobilization efforts: youth voters who registered to vote through Forward Montana turned out at a rate of 79%, compared to an overall youth voter turnout of 58% in the state.
